Summer commencement ceremonies inspire new beginnings and celebrate achievement

During the summer ceremony weekends in July and August, numerous academic institutions have held celebrations. Lee Seng Lau recently received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from Florida International University.

In one FIU lab, she researches glycans, unique sugars that assist cancer cells in avoiding the immune system. Her collaboration with a health system in Florida focuses on enhancing therapies for resistant cancers. As a McKnight Fellow and mother of two, she will pursue postdoctoral cancer research at FIU.

Southeastern Oklahoma State University held its summer commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2025 on Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26. The summer graduating class included a total of 590 students: 105 earned baccalaureate degrees, 461 received graduate degrees, and 24 obtained certificates. These graduates represented 40 states and U.S. territories, eight countries, and 17 sovereign tribal nations.

On Friday, August 8th, Texas A&M University-Texarkana held its first-ever August commencement ceremony.

Graduating students at Texas A&M University – Central Texas also walked across the stage during their Summer 2025 Commencement. Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi’s Division of Research and Innovation celebrated its Class of Summer 2025 during the commencement on August 9.

Prairie View A&M University honored 190 bachelor’s graduates, 69 master’s graduates, and 18 doctoral graduates during its 114th Summer Commencement Convocation. The keynote speaker, Melonie D. Parker, vice president of employee engagement at Google, delivered an inspiring message on purpose, leadership, and impact.

Bowling Green State University celebrated the educational achievements of the Class of 2025 with Summer Commencement exercises on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9.

During the university’s 313th Commencement exercises, the Summer 2025 graduating class consisted of 811 candidates: 24 received associate degrees, 325 earned bachelor’s degrees, 363 obtained master’s degrees, and 102 were awarded doctoral degrees.

Also on Saturday, Arkansas State University held its Summer Commencement, conferring over 1,100 degrees among all state colleges, including 102 honors graduates. The University of Central Arkansas also celebrated the Class of 2025.

The University of North Dakota celebrated 534 students earning their degrees during its Summer Graduation Commencement, featuring guest speaker Ryan Zerr, a UND alumnus, math professor, and key leader behind the UND LEADS Strategic Plan.

Ceremonies were also conducted at the University of South Florida, with live streams available on YouTube for those who could not attend in person.

Jacksonville State University held summer commencement ceremonies for graduates from various colleges, including the College of Arts, Humanities, and Sciences; College of Business and Industry; College of Social and Behavioral Sciences; College of Education and Professional Studies; and College of Health Professions and Wellness.
