Florida State University celebrated a remarkable weekend for its spring 2025 graduates, their families, and friends during six commencement ceremonies that welcomed the largest graduating class in FSU history.
According to the university, more than 7,100 students received a total of 8,926 degrees, which included 6,862 bachelor’s degrees, 1,558 master’s and specialist degrees, and 247 doctoral degrees.
These six ceremonies occurred at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center just over two weeks after a campus incident that left the community grieving but strengthened in unity.
These graduates have overcome so much—not only in the past few weeks but over the years they have worked towards this day, said FSU President Richard McCullough.
During a surprise speech, President McCullough spoke from the heart to the class that entered FSU alongside him. He used lyrics from some of his favorite songs to inspire the graduates to go out into the world and do their best.
On May 19, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) recognized five students from the college in the 2025 Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).
This program provides access to international research opportunities and professional development resources. Sebastian Castro and Luis Ernesto Blanco received full GRFP awards in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, respectively, highlighting the excellence fostered within the joint college. Honorable mentions were given to Cassie Duclos, Dylan Barton, and Graeme Pugsley.
