The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) recently hosted four in-person commencement ceremonies to honor more than 3,000 graduates and degree candidates for the spring and summer of 2025.

This graduating cohort includes over 480 engineering graduates, and a record number in computer science. It is also the first graduating class from the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program and the largest graduating class in the College of Science’s history.

The ceremonies took place on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, recognizing bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral graduates from all colleges, including the College of Health Sciences, College of Nursing, College of Science, Woody L. Hunt College of Business, School of Pharmacy, College of Liberal Arts, College of Education, and College of Engineering.

To celebrate the Class of 2025, the “Mining Minds” sculpture was illuminated in UTEP blue and orange from May 13 through May 18.

This iconic sculpture, installed in 2010, symbolizes UTEP’s academic and cultural milestones.

Additionally, the “M” on the Mountain, located across from Sun Bowl Stadium, was lit in honor of the graduates.

San Diego State University also celebrated the Class of 2025 with four commencement ceremonies.

More than 12,000 students graduated this year. The most popular degrees awarded were psychology and computer science.

Family and friends filled the seats to cheer on the graduates as they crossed the stage, while faculty, staff, and administrators celebrated their achievements.

In recognition of her impactful work in expanding educational access, transformative leadership, and unwavering commitment to equity, as well as a $25 million investment in STEM education, California State University, Northridge (CSUN) honored Lisa P. Jackson, Apple’s vice president for environment, policy, and social initiatives, with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

CSUN conferred Jackson’s honorary doctorate during the commencement ceremony for the College of Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Science and Mathematics on Friday, May 16.

Notably, over 70 percent of CSUN students are first-generation college students, and 60 percent come from historically underrepresented groups.
