The Argonne National Laboratory is giving female students an opportunity to discover engineering careers alongside women scientists and engineers. On Thurs, Feb. 20, participants will tour Argonne’s research facilities, connect with a mentor, engage in hands-on engineering experiments, and compete in a team challenge.
Argonne has hosted the annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day for more than 18 years. The deadline to register for Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory is Friday, January 10, 2020. Click here for more information.
Argonne is managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. In 1987, the laboratory was the first to demonstrate a pioneering technique, which accelerates particles in much shorter distances than conventional accelerators. The laboratory was also chosen as the site of the Advanced Photon Source, a major X-ray facility that was completed in 1995 and produced the brightest X-rays in the world at the time.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, participants will be able to tour Argonne’s research facilities, connect with a mentor, engage in hands-on engineering experiments, and compete in a team challenge.
All applicants must be in eighth grade and need to complete the online application. Space for the event is limited and participants will be selected by a lottery system.
