The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) announced recently that the nonprofit organization has added a new honorary award to its SHPE Technical Achievement and Recognition or STAR awards. Fittingly, the first recipient of the Rodrigo Garcia Founder’s Award will receive the award at the SHPE National Convention.
Rodrigo “Rod” Garcia, seen on the cover of a recent Hispanic Engineer magazine, has four decades of professional experience.
In the 2019 issue of Hispanic Engineer magazine, he was the subject of a feature story that celebrated SHPE’s 10,000-member milestone, reflected on the early beginnings, and the responsibility of a legacy for Latinos in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
According to SHPE, Rod’s unwavering service has been critical to the success of the organization, which now has more than 13,000 student and professional members.
The award honors his accomplishments and memorializes him as the guiding light of the organization that is leading Hispanics in STEM.
