Each year, Café Bustelo Coffee offers multiple scholarships of $5,000 to college students attending institutions that are members of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).
Since the scholarship program began in 2014, a total of 185 Latino students nationwide have received $925,000 in funding.
Last year, applicants were asked to write an essay of 800 words or less (in English or Spanish) discussing how their heritage, family, and community have influenced their desire and motivation to pursue a college degree.
They were also required to address what they intend to accomplish with their degree and how they plan to give back to their community.
The 2024 scholarship recipients came from California, Florida, Texas, Nevada, and Puerto Rico.
The scholarship is sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and The J.M. Smucker Company.
HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores stated, “HACU is proud to partner with Café Bustelo® in its 10th year of investing in the higher education success of Hispanic students across the country. For many students, their culture drives their desire to attain a higher education, and these scholarships provide much-needed financial assistance toward achieving that goal.”
Café Bustelo’s espresso heritage dates back to 1928.
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities represents more than 500 colleges and universities dedicated to promoting the success of Hispanic higher education in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America, Spain, and various school districts across the U.S.
