The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) has announced that the upcoming AISES Canada National Gathering will explore the theme “Innovation Rooted in Culture.”

According to the website, the 2025 conference graphics are inspired by this theme and reflect MJ Singleton’s (Ojibwe) vision, emphasizing the power of Indigenous peoples—not only in academics, scholarship, and professional fields but also in their connection to the land.

The Canada National Gathering is a platform for Indigenous STEM students and professionals to unite, network, and form lasting relationships across Canada and the continent.

This event will occur from March 6 to 8, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario.

AISES has announced that travel scholarships are available for the AISES Canada National Gathering. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect, learn, and grow alongside Indigenous leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)/

On the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in STEM, celebrated annually on February 11, AISES hosted a virtual fireside chat featuring prominent voices in the field.

Participants included Sarah EchoHawk, AISES president and advocate for Indigenous representation in STEM; Karen Horting from the Society of Women Engineers (SWE); Dr. Tiffini Andorful from the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE); and Suzanna Valdez-Wolfe from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

EchoHawk has been working on behalf of Indigenous people for over 20 years. She has led AISES since 2013.

Horting is the executive director and CEO for SWE, a position she has held since 2014.

Andorful joined NSBE as chief programs and membership officer in November 2024. Her tenure with NSBE began amid the society’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration, NSBE Gold, which culminates in spring 2025.

SHPE’s 50th Anniversary celebration took place in 2024. The organization named Valdez Wolfe as their CEO in April 2024.

The keynote speaker for the International Day of Women and Girls in STEM event was Congresswoman Luz Rivas, who is the first Latina in Congress with a background in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
