November is Native American Heritage Month and all-round the web institutions like the Library of Congress, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum are celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of the nation’s first people.
The Department of Interior is also honoring American Indians and Alaska Natives. According to the website, the bureau provides services to approximately 1.9 million American Indians and Alaska Natives, and the 567 federally recognized tribes in the United States.
The Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) oversees one of two federal school systems that includes 183 elementary, secondary day and boarding schools on 64 reservations in 23 states and serves 40,000 students.
