National Intern Day: Where are the Most Prestigious Internships for 2024?

POSTED ON Jul 25, 2024

It is the last Thursday of July, and it’s National Intern Day—the day set aside to recognize people who are working as interns.

Vault, a leader in career research, recently released its 2024 Internship Rankings. The rankings are based on Vault’s Summer 2023 Intern Survey, where over 13,000 interns from 145 programs were surveyed.

According to the survey, NASA continues to hold the title for the most prestigious internship, followed by other top programs including tech giants, Wall Street icons, and the CIA.

The rankings also listed the Top 10 Most Prestigious Internships for 2024, including NASA, Google, Microsoft, Apple Inc., and others, as well as the Top 10 Best Overall Internships for 2024 and the Best Internships by Industry in various sectors such as accounting, construction & trades, consulting, energy & renewables, financial services, and more.

The interns rated their programs on various factors such as Quality of Life, Compensation & Benefits, Interview Process, Career Development, Full Time Employment Prospects, and Diversity.

These ratings were used to compile Vault’s Best Overall Internships list.

PKF O’Connor Davies, a New York-based accounting firm, secured the top position on the list, with several other accounting firms making it to the top 10 for the first time.

Compared to some other majors, fewer students are now graduating with accounting degrees, and this has led to growing accounting firms putting in significant efforts to attract and retain these students.

The survey also revealed that 49% of interns eligible for full-time employment offers received or expected to receive an offer, 45% were uncertain, and 6% had already been denied an offer.

In comparison to the previous year, the numbers were slightly different with 60% receiving or expecting to receive an offer, 35% uncertain, and 5% already denied an offer.

Furthermore, 91% of interns reported that their internships were either entirely in-person or hybrid, while only 9% were fully remote.
