Summer’s almost over and it’s back to school season with long checklists and supply lists. If you plan to make a student research list on campus, remember to sign up for statistical analytics, computing, and modeling.

This summer, a junior mathematics major student at Texas A&M University-Kingsville was selected for a Research Experience for Undergraduates sponsored by the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis.

The National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis is a National Science Foundation-sponsored initiative to foster interdisciplinary research.

Kevin De Angeli, who has a perfect 4.0-grade point average and plans to earn his master’s and doctoral degrees, is from Argentina.

The program ran for from May 29 through July 20, with 15 students participants collaborating on an exploration of spatial interactions between hunting and gathering in tropical forests.

Participants worked in teams with postdoctoral researchers and university faculty at the interface of mathematics and biology.
