The world today is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. This reality underscores the importance of looking toward individuals who inspire innovation within their communities.
TEDCO, Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies, has revealed the recipients of the Maryland Makerspace Initiative Program for 2025.
This initiative, established through legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly, provides grants of up to $100,000 and technical assistance to qualified entities aiming to create new Makerspaces, expand existing ones, or develop Makerspace programming.
The goal of the Makerspace Program is to cultivate a statewide network of Makerspaces that provides entrepreneurs with access to essential tools, technologies, and knowledge to support their growth and development while also enhancing workforce training.
Since its inception, the Makerspace Program has awarded a total of $2.4 million through 52 awards to various organizations across Maryland, bolstering the state’s innovation ecosystem.
Each year, TEDCO compiles a list of trailblazers who are making a lasting impact. The Technology Development Corporation identifies, invests in, and supports the growth of technology and life science-based companies in Maryland.
These Makerspaces are noteworthy for their thought leadership, and it is beneficial to learn from them as we navigate the future. While none of us can predict exactly what lies ahead, we can certainly tackle challenges more effectively together than alone.
For 2025, nearly $785,000 in awards will be distributed among 14 entities across nine counties in the state.
Terry Rauh, TEDCO’s Chief Finance and Operations Officer, expressed optimism that these 14 awardees will help advance innovation within their communities.
Out of 25 highly competitive applications, TEDCO selected 14 for the Makerspace Program awards. Justin Ferguson, Innovation Manager for the Venture Development Department, noted this achievement.
The 14 awardees for the 2025 Makerspace Program are Allegany College of Maryland, Chesapeake Arts Center, City Life Community Builders, Digital Harbor Foundation, Tech Lab, The Inncuvate Community Development Partners, Frederick Makerspace, Makerspace of Annapolis, Maryland Assistive Technology Program, Players Philanthropy Fund (Code Super Powers), Rockville Science Center, Salisbury University, Richard Bernstein Makerspace, St. Mary’s County Library, The SPACE: Free Art for All (E2Lab), Washington College, and The Innovation Plant.
