LULAC in the community, Historic LULAC Council 60

LULAC (the League of United Latin American Citizens) recently announced that the All of Us Journey mobile unit was exhibited October 16-19 at the International District Library in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The All of Us exhibit features interactive stations designed to help visitors of all ages learn about scientific research in precision medicine.

Recent event locations include the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh, NC; Paris Hotel, Las Vegas, NV; University of Nevada Las Vegas; Shaw University, Raleigh, NC; NIEHS Clinical Research Unit, Durham, NC; Vista Grande Public Library, Santa Fe, NM; Maya Cinemas North Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, NV; Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC; East Las Vegas Community Center, Las Vegas, NV; Saint Augustine’s University, Raleigh, NC; and the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV.

In related news, the historic LULAC Council 60 Scholarship program, which is managed through fundraising efforts by members of the Historic LULAC Council 60, also recently launched the 2023 series.

The program’s success depends on the support of the community, the public, and corporate funding.

The Council awards a one-time scholarship to qualified students enrolled in or planning to enroll in accredited colleges or universities.

Scholarships may be used for the payment of tuition, academic fees, room and board, and the purchase of required educational materials and books.

Applicants must graduate from a local high school in the Houston area, Harris County, or the surrounding area.

They must have applied to be full-time students in a two-year college or vocational school that leads to an associate degree.

Graduate students must have applied to or be enrolled part-time in a college or university.

Applications must be submitted with a high school or college transcript, including cumulative GPA, verification of admittance or enrollment from the institution that the student is attending or planning to attend, including a letter of acceptance, a letter from the registrar, or a transcript. You should also submit a personal essay of 500 words or less.
