Chávez Rodrígue has an impressive background, which makes her perfect for the role. Her primary goal is to bring in as many “diaspora communities” as possible into the broader coalition by targeting Latino voters in states like Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, which have growing Latino populations.

The campaign plans to use bilingual ads narrated by speakers with different Spanish accents and have specialized groups focused on nationalities like “Colombianos con Biden.”

After graduating from UC Berkeley, where she majored in Latin American Studies, Chavez Rodriguez worked at the Cesar Chávez Foundation for almost nine years.

In 2008, she became a full-time volunteer for the Obama presidential campaign in Colorado, where she focused on mobilizing the Latino vote.

Her work helped turn Colorado blue, and she worked in the Department of the Interior for two years before being selected by Valerie Jarrett for a career in the White House.

There, she managed the White House’s outreach to crucial groups, including Latinos, veterans, Native Americans, LGBTQ+ communities, and Asian American and Pacific Islanders.

After Obama left office, Chavez Rodriguez joined then-senator Kamala Harris and eventually joined her 2020 presidential campaign.

When Harris left the race, the Biden campaign hired her to turn out Latino voters. After Biden won, she was appointed as the director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, making her the highest-ranking Latina in the administration.

According to Chavez Rodriguez, she learned a lot during her time in the Biden world, where she was able to work with the best of the best.

She said that she would likely lean on the lessons instilled by her family, which would help her weather the storm that comes with politics.

Chávez Rodríguez has a personal connection to the labor movement. She remembers when her grandfather, Cesar Chávez, went on a water-only fast to protest the use of five pesticides on table grapes, which were causing health problems in field workers.

Her grandfather fasted for 36 days, and Chávez Rodríguez and her sister helped keep him hydrated. She said that it was an emotional experience for her, but she saw how heroic her grandfather was in those moments. All five pesticides were eventually banned.

Chávez Rodríguez believes that people are starting to recognize how diverse the Latino community is. She is excited to work with the Biden campaign to bring more Latino voters into the fold.
