Women of Wisdom Tri-Cities, an organization supporting communities in Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland in Washington state, is hosting an Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day event at a local library on Thursday, February 20.
This event encourages volunteers, educators, and engineers to inspire the next generation.
The event will showcase various community organizations in the Tri-Cities area and offer hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities focusing on engineering.
In related news, the University of Chicago Argonne National Laboratory has announced its 23rd annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.
According to their webpage, Argonne has partnered with Women in Science and Technology to present this initiative, providing young female students a unique opportunity to discover and explore the engineering world and its numerous career possibilities.
This year’s Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day at Argonne National Laboratory will take place on February 20.
Participants will have the chance to enjoy motivational presentations by female engineers and connect with mentors who can guide them as they explore futures in engineering.
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day takes place during Engineers Week (EWeek) and is organized by DiscoverE, which has been the leading organization behind this initiative since its establishment in 2001.
DiscoverE also sponsors Engineers Week (established in 1951), World Engineering Day (established in 2016), and the Future City Competition™ (established in 1993).
In the Future City initiative, middle school students roll up their sleeves to imagine, research, design, and create innovative future cities that tackle pressing sustainability challenges within their communities. The 2025 Future City Finals winners have been announced.
In first place is Salacia from Dowington Middle School in Pennsylvania (Philadelphia region).
Hot on their heels, second place is awarded to the creative team from Farnsworth Middle School in New York (Albany region).
The third-place honor goes to the innovative thinkers at Fulton Science Academy in Georgia.
Fourth place was earned by the talented group from Mesa Accelerated and Gifted Academy in Arizona. Finally, the enthusiastic team from St. Clair Jr. High School in Missouri is in fifth place.
