The Coalition for Hispanic/Latino Issues and Progress, also known by its acronym CHIP, has held the Hispanic Leadership Conference for more than two decades. Thousands of individuals representing hundreds of Hispanic and Hispanic-serving organizations have attended this annual event.
Every year, the conference looks at current events, but the theme of the conference has always focused on “Abriendo Puertas” (Opening Doors). In 2017, the challenges presented by education and immigration laws were on the agenda. For the 25th annual Hispanic Leadership Conference in 2020, CHIP celebrated the past and how they are inspiring the future. In 2019, CHIP’s annual Hispanic Leadership Conference focused on mental health, trauma, racism and social justice on a national level.
According to Antioch University, Salvador D. Treviño, who lectures on diagnostic skills and effective interventions essential to working with Hispanic families and immigrants, presented the keynote address titled, “The Latino Soul in Grief: Tales of Hope and Resilience.”
The Hispanic Leadership Conference serves as a forum where civic leaders, educators, students, social workers, non-profit organizations, union and corporate representatives, Hispanic/Latino advocacy groups and concerned citizens, can exchange views, network, and review information provided, enabling us all to better understand the major unresolved issues affecting the Hispanic/Latino and greater community.
