At a recent American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Conference, it was emphasized that the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education should be instilled in the young minds of the K-12 school system.

Studies have shown that STEM education should start with first to eighth-grade students because nurturing young minds early while matching their educational interests is easier.

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District recognizes its teachers’ and staff’s passion and efforts in shaping the minds of future engineers, scientists, and tech leaders.

The school district has about 9,000 students, with 80% of minority enrollment and 43.5% of students being economically disadvantaged.

The school district has announced that its schools are fostering a passion for innovation, creativity, and problem-solving in robotics from elementary to high school.

Recently, Monterey High School’s team, Robodores, consisting of 20 students from first-year students to seniors, and Seaside High’s team, BayBots, composed of 15 students from first-year students to seniors, competed in the 2024 FIRST Robotics Competition.

During National Robotics Week – April 6 -13, 2024, the school district will highlight the incredible work in their classrooms, labs, and robotics clubs that inspire students of all ages to dive into the exciting world of robotics.

Robotics isn’t just about robots; it’s about preparing students for the future.

The household robots market is projected to grow from $9.2 billion in 2022 to $19.3 billion by 2027, according to the latest Household Robots Market report.

The rising use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in robots for predictive maintenance, government initiatives for the development of robotic technologies, and growing demand for autonomous robots are some of the key drivers of the household robots market.

By delving into the world of robotics, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District believes students are gaining invaluable skills in teamwork, critical thinking, and technological literacy – skills that will serve them well in any career they choose.
