In March, Craig Labovitz, chief technology officer for Nokia Deepfield, said broadband connections are becoming our lifelines. “We are using them to get news, connect to our work environments, and for entertainment too,” he wrote. By 2022, Cisco predicts that 79 percent of all mobile users will stream their favorite events.
Just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, the film of the original production of Hamilton will be released on Disney+. Bob Iger, executive chairman of The Walt Disney Company, and Lin Manuel Miranda appeared live on Good Morning America (GMA) in May to announce that Hamilton will be streaming on July 3.
“I can’t say enough about what an incredible job Tommy Kail, our director, has done with the movie. He’s basically given everyone at home the best seat in the house,” Miranda said on GMA. “I can’t wait for you all to see it,” he added.
Miranda noted that the filming of the musical was done over three days in June of 2016. Iger said he couldn’t think of another work of art in the last decade that’s had the cultural impact of Hamilton.
“In these times, to tell a story of people uniting together against forces of adversity, I think is quite relevant and quite important,” he said on GMA.
Earlier this year, Disney announced that a film version of Hamilton would hit theaters in the fall of 2021. That was before COVID-19 changed everything as we know it.
