Guatemala’s de Fuego has erupted again, and satellites were able to capture the explosion. According to a Weather Channel report, over 3,000 people are said to have fled their homes and an estimated 1.7 million were affected by the eruption.
Volcan de Fuego is one of Central America’s most active volcanoes. Officials fear both the number of deaths and injured will rise with many people still unaccounted for.
Earlier in 2018, Mt. Fuego erupted on January 31st. NASA captured photos of a late-January eruption, which shot an ash plume 21,000 feet above sea level.
The Weather Channel, which reports on breaking weather news, the environment and the importance of science to our lives, said villages were blanketed in ash Sunday, while lava flows reaching temperatures of 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit spewed down the mountainside.
