The El Paso Science Festival is set to host the 2025 science celebration at the El Paso Convention Center. The event will feature many University of Texas at El Paso scientists and engineers and be headlined by José Moreno Hernández.
An engineer and astronaut, Hernández currently serves as a regent of the University of California.
In August 2009, he flew on the Space Shuttle mission STS-128 and previously worked as the chief of the Materials and Processes branch at the Johnson Space Center.
He also developed equipment for full-field digital mammography at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Hernández is the subject of the 2023 biopic A Million Miles Away, in which Michael Peña portrays him.
The 2025 El Paso Science Festival will kick off on April 5, with free admission from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This two-day event will conclude on April 6 and promises family fun for everyone. Register now at elpasoscience.org.
The festival, sponsored by the University of Texas at El Paso, the El Paso Community Foundation, and other organizations, will feature over 100 interactive exhibits, science demonstrations, and a speaker series.
The idea for the El Paso Science Festival originated from a desire to create an environment where children catch the spark of inspiration to dream big and adults can see that their children’s dreams are possible.
