“Our grads are so creative!” read one post on the Facebook wall of University of Texas at San Antonio. “How cool are these caps, y’all?!” gushed another on Instagram. The Hispanic-serving institution’s fall 2022 commencement ceremony took place at the Alamodome on December 13.
According to UTSA, more than 3,000 students received their degrees in one of two ceremonies. The first began at 10 a.m. for the College of Health, Community and Policy, College of Liberal and Fine Arts and College of Sciences. The second ceremony started at 3 p.m. for the Alvarez College of Business, College of Education and Human Development, and the Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design and University College.
The Doctoral Hooding Ceremony for doctoral graduates took place on December 8. Doctoral graduates were welcome to attend the ceremony for their academic college on Dec. 13, but the hooding process occurred only at this ceremony.
Earlier in the year, the popular Commencement Drive took place on the Main Campus. The nostalgic parade is where graduates dress up in Commencement regalia and decorate their vehicles for the tradition that started in 2020. Participants are led by the UTSA Police Department through the designated route.
This fall, UTSA announced the Roadrunner Walk. The new event, which was described as an “fun and safe” way for graduating students to have a memorable walk on campus, was held December 9. Graduates walked along the Paseo while being celebrated by the UTSA community, friends, and family members.
The event is similar to the Commencement Drive, but graduates strolled on a path and campus partners, friends and families were in one location to celebrate graduates. After the fall 2022 commencement ceremonies, UTSA took to social media to showcase some of the most creative graduation hats. UTSA is a Tier One research university and a Hispanic Serving Institution specializing in cyber, health, fundamental futures and social-economic transformation.
