The Indian Health Service (IHS) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced that the next application cycle for the IHS scholarship will open on December 15, 2024.
This scholarship offers financial support in exchange for a minimum two-year service commitment in an Indian health program serving medically underserved American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
To be eligible for the Health Professions Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in nursing, clinical laboratory science, or environmental health.
Those applying for a master’s degree must be in nurse practitioner programs, social work (clinical), or physician assistant programs.
Doctoral degree applicants can apply if they are studying optometry, physical therapy, clinical psychology, or pharmacy.
The scholarship covers tuition and fees paid directly to the educational institution, provides a one-time book allowance for the scholars, and includes a monthly stipend paid directly to the scholarship recipient.
The 2025 Indian Health Geriatric Nurse Fellowship for RNs, APRNs, and LPNs in tribal, and urban Indian health care settings offers up to $6,500 in support.
