Empowering the next generation of health professionals

The National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF), with the support of the United Health Foundation, recently announced the awarding of 18 scholarships to graduate students. 

The California Awards Gala took place on November 22nd at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

The recipients of the 2024 scholarships are enrolled in health-related programs, including health sciences, nursing, physician assistant, pharmacy, and medical schools at institutions such as UCLA, the University of California, Irvine, the University of Southern California, the University of Nevada, Reno, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Stanford University, the University of Arizona, the University of the Pacific, Western University, and the University of Texas at El Paso.

The NHHF expressed gratitude to health leaders for their efforts in transforming government programs, academic institutions, private sector organizations, and local communities to enhance access to healthcare.

The California Hispanic Health Leadership Honorees included Xavier Becerra, secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services; Congresswoman Nanette Barragan; Annette M. Walker, president of City of Hope Orange County; Carolyn C. Meltzer, dean of the Keck School of Medicine at USC; Michael J. Stamos, dean of the UCI School of Medicine; John L. Dalrymple, dean of the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine; and James E. Cruz, president of Latinx Physicians of California.

The NHHF aims to honor those advancing health equity and to empower the next generation of health professionals.
