El Paso Community College (EPCC) is one of nine institutions of higher education that earned the 2019 Seal of Excelencia. The seal is certification recognizing an institution’s commitment to serving Latino students. To earn the Seal, institutions must demonstrate they have made significant strides in terms of data, practice, and leadership, areas that Excelencia has identified as key to supporting Latino student success.
“We are proud of our efforts to increase the number of Latino students enrolling in college; to increase the number of Latino students completing their degrees, many of whom are the first in their family to graduate from college,” EPCC President Dr. William Serrata said in a statement.
EPCC serves more than 28,500 students and offers 145 degree and certificate programs. Throughout its 50-year history, the college has remained focused on engaging students, growing community partnerships and fostering excellence.
Founded in 2004, the Excelencia in Education organization works to accelerate Latino student success in higher education to address the U.S. economy’s need for a highly educated workforce and for civic leadership.
“Through the Seal certification process, we provide a platform for colleges and universities to reflect on their current impact, practices, and policies and implement new and better ones that respond to Latino students’ realities. Ultimately this serves all students,” Sarita Brown, President, Excelencia in Education said.
