The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University has announced that the “Every Drop Counts” Scholarship is now open for applications.
Texas State students studying environmental or earth sciences are encouraged to apply for a chance to earn $10,000 toward their education. The deadline to apply is May 16.
The “Every Drop Counts” Earth Science Scholarship Fund was created in 2002 through Ozarka and parent company Primo Water’s partnership with The Meadows Center for Water and Environment.
The center hosted the 12th Annual Earth Day San Marcos Festival at Spring Lake on Saturday, April 19.
The community event celebrated local natural resources and featured various hands-on educational activities suitable for people of all ages. Eco-friendly exhibitors and vendors showcased a range of environmental and sustainability-related topics through demonstrations.
The University of Texas at Dallas announced that Earth Week will be celebrated from April 21 to 25. This year marks the 14th annual Earth Week, organized by the Office of Sustainability and the Office of Student Volunteerism, continuing the legacy of Earth Day.
This year’s event’s theme is “Wildlife,” celebrating all our furry, feathered, scaly, and shelled neighbors.
Activities will include exploring the history of the Eco Hub and Luna Farm since October 2021, designing custom planters to take home, adding milkweed to support returning monarch butterflies, a live bird demonstration, litter cleanup along the adopted highway maintained by the UTD Office of Student Volunteerism, a discussion on sustainable fashion and ways to minimize textile waste, and a hands-on workshop about upcycling fabric and textiles.
Arizona State University‘s Global Futures Laboratory will celebrate Earth Day on April 22 with a special event dedicated to honoring the planet.
The program includes a youth leadership panel focusing on “Conversations on Impact,” an Earth Day edition of the Global Futures Conversation, and the “State of Global Futures Address” by ASU Vice President and Vice Provost of Global Futures, Peter Schlosser. Global Futures scientists and scholars will deliver additional presentations.
The Department of Earth and Environment at Florida International University is hosting an Earth Day BioBlitz, allowing participants to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible.
This initiative aims to document biological diversity and critical ecological interactions within the FIU Nature Preserve.
Michigan State University‘s month-long Science Festival is also hosting a BioBlitz and Community Clean Up Challenge.
The University of Texas at Austin also announced a full calendar of events for Earth Month. This includes an exhibition on plastic waste, vegetable harvesting in campus gardens, an environmental and energy economics and policy seminar, a micro-farm workday, a “Trash to Treasure” donation drive, and the Earth Day Fair on Tuesday, April 22.
The fair, themed “Our Earth, Our Future,” will explore everyday ways to support a more sustainable campus and community. Attendees can engage with sustainability initiatives, green innovations, student organizations, and local sustainability leaders.
