Jose Marquez-Leon, who was featured on the cover of the 2011 Hispanic Heritage Month edition of Hispanic Engineer magazine, has been acknowledged by the Georgia Latino Film Alliance for his significant contributions to the Georgia film community.

He has been a prominent figure in TechLatino: The National Association of Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology (LISTA) for almost three decades.

Marquez-Leon has played a key role in promoting a network of nearly 15 affiliated community-based councils, associations, and partnerships with non-profit organizations.

LISTA represents thousands of Latino/Latina/Latinx professionals across 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, South America, and Spain.

The organization conducts workshops, seminars, national business series, research, policy analysis, and technology awareness programs to provide a Latino perspective in key technology areas such as workforce development, coding, health information technology, STEAM education, employment/economic status, business development, and broadband.

Additionally, it offers workshops and training to technology professionals and students in health, big data, and other technology opportunities for individuals, small businesses, and families, with the goal of bridging the digital divide and creating opportunities for all.

Marquez-Leon has been serving as the national president/CEO of TechLatino: Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association since 1997, overseeing the day-to-day operations.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Rutgers University and is dedicated to helping his community by guiding Latinos toward science and technology, as evidenced by his founding of LISTA.

To prepare young information technology professionals for careers in health information technology, LISTA developed a program to provide hands-on experience working in a doctor’s office for six months to a year.

Prior to founding LISTA, Marquez-Leon was the chief architect of Hispanics in Information Technology and Telecommunications, where he highlighted the lack of Latino presence in the IT and telecommunications workforce.

He also served as vice president of strategic channels for an Internet/Internet Software & Services company based in New York and president of an e-business solution consulting firm assisting companies with their web strategies, security, and wireless communications.
