The leaders featured in Hispanic Engineer magazine’s list are trailblazers in various fields, including aeronautics and space, information technology, and wireless.

They have contributed significantly to society, the business world, and through volunteer activities.

They have uplifted the Hispanic community and maintained a position of influence in policy and education. They are among the most influential movers and shakers in America.

Dr. Lydia Villa-Komaroff, a molecular biologist, is one of the leaders featured in the list.

Her research on recombinant DNA uncovered a way to use bacteria cells to make insulin, a groundbreaking discovery.

Prior to founding Intersections SBD in 2014, she was the chief executive officer of Cytonome, Inc. from 2006 to 2009, and the chief scientific officer of Cytonome/ST, LLC from 2009 to 2014.

Before that, she held the position of vice president for research at Northwestern University.

Dr. Villa-Komaroff currently serves as a nominating committee chair and a senior advisor at the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).

She is also a member of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Committee on Equal Opportunity in Science and Engineering and the Advisory Council of the NSF Directorate for Social, Behavioral & Economic Sciences.
