Did you know that someone new is diagnosed with Parkinson’s every six minutes in the United States? Throughout Parkinson’s Awareness Month in April, everyone is encouraged to explore community support resources for individuals and caregivers and highlight ongoing research and advocacy initiatives.
The National Alliance for Hispanic Health is inviting individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease—including patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and advocates—to collaborate in enhancing the experiences of the Parkinson’s community.
As a leading source of science-based health information, the National Alliance for Hispanic Health has partnered with the Parkinson’s Foundation to raise awareness during Parkinson’s Awareness Month in April 2025.
This year’s theme, “Your Guide to Parkinson’s Awareness Month,” will introduce Pam, an engaging character created by the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Throughout April, Pam will guide audiences through essential topics such as recognizing early symptoms of Parkinson’s, understanding treatment options, exploring community support resources for individuals and caregivers, and highlighting ongoing research and advocacy initiatives.
Individuals can access information and follow Pam’s journey through weekly social media videos available in both English and Spanish.
The collaboration between the National Alliance for Hispanic Health and the Parkinson’s Foundation aims to expand resources, providing access to the PD Library, blogs, and virtual programs while encouraging participation in research to ensure better representation of minority groups in clinical studies.
Additionally, the partnership will offer direct support through the Parkinson’s Foundation Helpline, where individuals can receive expert guidance and referrals.
Culturally relevant fitness and wellness programs will feature PD-specific exercise videos and educational sessions.
According to the press release, nearly 20% of the U.S. population identifies as Hispanic or Latino (approximately 63.6 million people, based on the 2022 U.S. Census).
This underscores the urgent need for improved healthcare access, culturally tailored resources, and increased participation in research.
The Parkinson’s Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure.
Studies indicate that Hispanic and Latino individuals experience higher rates of early-onset Parkinson’s disease, more severe symptom management issues, and lower access to appropriate care compared to non-Hispanic white populations.
