The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is now accepting applications for Native American scholarships.

The Peoria Tribe Scholarship is available to members of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, or to students with a history of connection to the state of Illinois who have filed a FAFSA for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, campus fees, and room and board that is not covered by other federal, state, institutional, and private awards, including the Federal Pell Grant and the State of Illinois Monetary Award Program Grant.

The Tribal Nations Scholarship is open to any student who is not a resident of Illinois, is a member of any of the tribal nations federally recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and has filed a FAFSA for the upcoming academic year.

The scholarship covers the difference between non-resident and resident tuition at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.

Catching the Dream is an education and scholarship center for Native Americans. The organization aims to increase the number of American Indian students who complete high school and attend college.

Currently, only 17% of Native American students who complete high school attend college, compared to 70% for the nation as a whole.

Most of these students attend public two-year community colleges, while few attend four-year colleges and fewer than 1% enroll in Ivy League institutions.

Catching the Dream (CTD) addresses these deficiencies by prioritizing the study of math, engineering, science, business, education, and computer science (MESBEC).

The completion rate of their scholarship students is 78%, and all CTD students who have graduated with a degree in MESBEC fields are employed, with over 85% of them working for tribes or tribal organizations.

CTD scholarships are merit-based and range from $500 to $5,000 annually. Over 95% of students who have applied have been awarded a scholarship.
