The McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship Program provides scholarships to up to 30 exceptional students across the country.

Recipients are selected based on their academic achievements, community involvement, personal statements, and financial need.

To date, over $33 million in McDonald’s HACER National Scholarships have been awarded to Hispanic and Latino students nationwide.

The program continues to offer educational opportunities aimed at narrowing the gap for college-bound Hispanic and Latino students, reinforcing McDonald’s long-standing commitment to supporting the diverse communities it serves.

There are three tiers of funding to help recipients cover their college tuition:

– Tier 1 recipients can receive up to $100,000.
– Tier 2 recipients are awarded either $20,000 or $10,000.
– Tier 3 recipients receive $5,000.

On January 12, the American Alliance for Equal Rights filed a lawsuit against McDonald’s.

The complaint highlights that non-Hispanic individuals are not eligible for HACER scholarships, and it points out that no non-Hispanic person has ever received a HACER scholarship in the program’s history.

The lawsuit seeks both declaratory and injunctive relief, explicitly requesting a preliminary injunction.

The deadline for this year’s scholarship program is February 6, 2025.

In a Wall Street Journal article published on January 13, 2025, a representative stated that he hopes McDonald’s will pause the program to allow all under-resourced high school students, regardless of their ethnic heritage, to have access to it.
