Be sure to check out Sallie Mae’s new “How America Pays” report to learn about the critical role scholarships play in funding higher education for families.

The national study conducted by Ipsos found that families spent an average of $28,409 on college for the 2023-2024 academic year, which is consistent with the $28,026 spent in the previous year.

The report indicates that families covered nearly half (48%) of their college expenses through income and savings, according to the findings in “How America Pays for College 2024,” the annual study released by Sallie Mae and Ipsos.
