NASA is currently offering 100 internship opportunities for Spring 2025, with applications due by August 23, 2024.
These internships provide hands-on experiences for educators and students aged 16 and up, including those in high school, undergraduate, and graduate programs.
The areas of focus span a wide range, from power and propulsion engineering to exoplanet spectroscopy and machine learning for lens less particle image velocimetry.
In addition, NASA recently hosted a virtual event aimed at non-STEM majors, featuring talks from current and former NASA interns, as well as insights into the application process and available opportunities.
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is also offering internships with the federal government.
Visit EERE’s “Internships, Fellowships, Graduate & Postdoctoral Opportunities” web page to find out more about various programs, including the Department of Energy (DOE) Scholars, the Minority Educational Institution Student Partnership, and the Pathways Internships.
Most of these programs offers high school, undergraduate, and graduate students summer internship positions and paid opportunities with the department and its national laboratories.
Office of Science laboratories include the Ames National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory. The National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories include the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Other energy department office laboratories include the Idaho National Laboratory and the National Energy Technology Laboratory.
On some EERE tracks, student interns may be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the civil service. For undergraduate or graduate students studying engineering or environmental sciences, year-round internships are available with Clean Cities coalitions.
