The Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) kicked off Native American Heritage Month by celebrating the significant contributions of the Native American and Indigenous communities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

SACNAS announced plans to use this month for education, celebration, and respect.

In honor of the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native peoples, SACNAS encouraged the community to support Native-owned businesses.

Additionally, SACNAS urged individuals to attend cultural events such as powwows and webinars to learn about the history of Native American tribes.

Participants were also encouraged to wear moccasins during Rock Your Mocs Week (November 10 – 16) and to amplify Native voices on social media.

On November 22, SACNAS will host a special Indigenous Book Club event during a webinar for Native American Heritage Month.

This event will feature Dr. Daniel Wildcat as they discuss his book, “On Indigenuity: Learning the Lessons of Mother Earth.”

The virtual book club-style discussion will explore the powerful intersection of Indigenous wisdom and its relevance in an engaging and enjoyable conversation.
