It’s Wednesday and you know what that means. This is the catchphrase All Elite Wrestling has coined to get fans riled up for Wednesday night’s Dynamite show on TBS. Now, the company is providing fans with a gaming experience that will make them feel like they’re in the middle of the action.
Although details are still up in the air, the first AEW console game is currently in development and is expected to be released in September 2022. The project was first announced in 2020 with a sneak peek at Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho’s characters, but little is known about specific aspects of the game including the full roster.
Yuke’s, the creators of the WWE 2K games, is a key player in the development of the AEW game. The game is expected to be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One. AEW has confirmed fans will still be able to play with and against their friends on various platforms. It is unknown if the game will also be released for PC and Nintendo Switch.
The game will include a story mode with input from the wrestlers themselves, but it is unclear whether players will be able to choose from AEW wrestlers or create their own.
A few wrestlers are expected to make an appearance in the AEW game including Chris Jericho, Darby Allin, Hikaru Shida, Jungle Boy, Kenny Omega, Thunder Rosa, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson.
According to Fightful Select, multiple members of the Yuke’s team that worked on the SmackDown vs. Raw video games for Playstation 2 are part of the team working on the new AEW game.
