AISES and GMiS have announced their 2025 conference award winners

One of the highlights of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) National Conference, scheduled for early October, will be the presentation of the Professional Awards.

These awards recognize outstanding achievements in various categories, including Professional of the Year, Blazing Flame, Executive Excellence, Indigenous Excellence, Most Promising Engineer or Scientist, and Technical Excellence.

Recently, AISES announced the 2025 award winners, featuring prominent figures who bridge the fields of engineering, environmental science, and Indigenous knowledge.

Jennifer Randell, co-founder and director of the first Indigenous-run aviary facility in the U.S., is the nominee for the Indigenous Excellence Award.

Dr. Cherie De Vore, an assistant professor at the University of Arizona, will receive the Most Promising Engineer/Scientist Award.

Professor Franklin Dollar, associate dean at UC Irvine’s School of Physical Sciences, is recognized with the Technical Excellence Award for his significant contributions to laser science.

Dr. Karina Walters, director of the Tribal Health Research Office at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, has been named Professional of the Year for creating the Indigenist Stress-Coping Model.

Dr. Kelsea Kanoho Hosoda, an assistant professor and director of the Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence at the University of Hawaii’s School of Medicine, will receive the Blazing Flame Award for her efforts in supporting underrepresented students in science and medicine.

Robert Turner, senior vice president and general manager of U.S. Financial Services, has been awarded the Executive Excellence Award for his role in driving innovation in payment systems.

Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) will also organize award ceremonies during the conference in October. The Class of 2025 award recipients will be recognized at the 37th Annual GMiS Conference.

As stated in the press release, the awardees include SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR, Héctor Mendoza, Ph.D., from Sandia National Laboratories; CHAIRMAN’S AWARD, Mildred García, Ed.D., from The California State University System; OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT, Juan C. Tuberquia, Ph.D., from Dow; and EXECUTIVE EXCELLENCE, Andre Argenton, Ph.D., also from Dow.
