A Center for AI and Advanced Technologies has announced an upcoming online event featuring the director of the United States Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) within the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The event will be livestreamed on July 31.

The U.S. AI Safety Institute (AISI) was established to advance the science, practice, and adoption of AI safety in response to risks related to national security, public safety, and individual rights. You can click here to watch the event.

In 2020, the University of California, Davis received a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to enhance research and undergraduate teaching at Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) in computing.

UC Davis, an Emerging HSI with 24.6% Hispanic enrollment, was awarded its first federally funded HSI grant.

It’s noted that institutions with more than 25% Hispanic student enrollment educate over two-thirds of the nation’s undergraduate Hispanic students.

These institutions play a crucial role in training the future U.S. workforce.

Recently, West Texas A&M University, a designated Hispanic-serving institution, announced that a research team won a $500,000 federal grant from the National Science Foundation.

The grant aims to enhance success in STEM fields for Hispanic students through artificial intelligence (AI).

The project, titled “HSI Implementation and Evaluation Project: STEM Student Empowerment through Mentorship, Family-Centric Innovation Activities, and Artificial Intelligence Research”, will include various initiatives focused on engaging students and their families, with a particular emphasis on AI.
