The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) announced that 146 college students were selected to participate in the HACU National Internship Program. The 10-week summer session represents more than 93 higher education institutions.

“We are grateful to all our federal and corporate partners who have given our interns from Hispanic-Serving Institutions and other colleges and universities invaluable opportunities to gain real-world experience to help shape the future workforce of this nation,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores in a statement.

Two years ago, an entire summer session of students participated in virtual internships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, six federal agencies are providing students with on-site internship positions, and the rest working remotely.

Agencies in Washington, D.C., and field offices are among those providing 2022 summer internship opportunities to students.

They include NASA, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Treasury Department, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Federal Reserve Board, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

A Bipartisan Senate Resolution in April recognized the 30th Anniversary of the HACU National Internship Program. In a release, HACU expressed appreciation to the Senate for the recognition and for those who have partnered to help open the doors of opportunity for students across the nation.

The institutions participating in the summer internship sessions include the University of Miami, Coral Gables; MiraCosta Community College District, Saginaw Valley State University; California State University, Northridge; Carlos Albizu University, San Juan; Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Recinto de Carolina; Florida International University, Gallaudet University, Georgia Institute of Technology, New Mexico State University, Oklahoma State University, Oregon State University, Queens College, CUNY; San Diego State University, The University of Texas at El Paso, University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Yale University.
