The Latinos in Technology Scholarship was established by the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley for students who have a declared major in a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) field. According to the foundation, scholarship recipients will also be provided with internship opportunities by Latinos in Technology Scholarship corporate funders from Silicon Valley.

Since 2001, Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) has awarded $5 million in scholarships to over 1,700 college students. Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, or graduate students from an underserved or underrepresented group in STEM or health. Apply via the portal here.

In 2020, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) announced that it awarded a record-breaking number of scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year totaling more than $620,000 – a 39% increase over 2019-2020.

For 2021, SHPE announced a raft of scholarships open on February 1 and are due on April 30. Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine took a look.

If you will be a sophomore, junior, or senior this fall, then apply for the SHPE Eaton Multicultural Scholarship, which provides assistance and work experience to minority college students interested in a career as an engineer. The award notice date is July 1.

You can also apply for the SHPE Undergraduate Scholarship. For the SHPE Graduate Scholarship, you must be a full-time graduate STEM student in the fall of 2021.  The SHPE Dissertation Scholarship is open to Ph.D. students.

Other awards are in the corporate-funded category. They include the Ansys Scholarship, which is open to a college sophomore, junior, senior, master, or doctoral student. If you are pursuing civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, or mechanical engineering major, then apply for the AVANGRID Scholarship.

Applicants for the American Petroleum Institute Scholarship must belong to a SHPE Chapter in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bakersfield/Kern County, California, Chicago, Illinois, Denver, Colorado, or El Paso/Houston, Texas. Only students at Santa Ana College or a surrounding community college/university can apply for the Brasstech Scholarship. For the John Deere Scholarship, applicants must attend a school or reside in Region 6 and attend the SHPE National Convention.

The Bechtel Scholarship is open to undergraduate students attending Arizona State University, Georgia Tech, North Carolina A&T State University, Rutgers University, Prairie View A&M University, Purdue University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Maryland.

The Tom Giacomini JBT Engineering Scholarship is for students from Case Western Reserve University, Michigan Tech, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Ohio State University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Central Florida, University of Cincinnati, University of Florida, University of Utah, University of Washington, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

The Northrop Grumman Scholarship is open to students from institutions in Florida, California, Georgia, Washington D.C., Massachusetts, North Carolina, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland,  Michigan,  Puerto Rico, Texas, and Virginia.

There are also the IPG Photonics Engineering Scholarship, Chevron Scholarship, the Intel Graduate/Ph.D. Scholarship and Undergraduate Scholarship. The Toyota Scholarship is open to a sophomore or junior student who is an active SHPE member. Apply at ScholarSHPE.
