Latinas are underrepresented in the finance sector, with only 12.9% of the industry being Hispanic, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A report by the Economic Policy Institute in 2020 showed that only 10% of Latinas are represented in management, business, and finance roles, compared to 18% of white women.

Financial coach Imelda Rodriguez aims to encourage Hispanic women to enter the finance industry with her new book, “Latinas in Finances.”

Published by Fig Factor Media, the book features 18 Illinois-based authors sharing their personal stories of building careers while facing challenges and achieving success in various occupations.

“Latinas in Finances” is a collaborative effort to inspire and motivate Latinas in the financial industry. The book features personal anecdotes of success and failure, as well as insights from women in the financial field.

Rodriguez cited a report by the AAUW Latina Initiative, which found that “one in five white women work in management, business, and financial operations occupations compared to nearly one in eight Latina women.” “Latinas in Finances” aims to encourage Latinas to pursue careers in the financial industry.

One of the authors who contributed to the book is Jimenez, a bilingual real estate broker. As a single mother at 17, Jimenez emphasized the importance of controlling her financial future.

Being a contributing author in “Latinas in Finances” allowed her to share her journey and inspire other Latinas.

Finhabits, a financial technology platform, released a report titled “Power in Numbers: The $113 Trillion Unseen Hispanic Wealth Opportunity,” which highlights the increasing wealth and investing behaviors of US Hispanics.

The report reveals that more than 680,000 Hispanics use the platform for investment and financial education.

It also shows that Hispanics fuel their collective wealth by adopting micro-investing options, contributing up to 6.5% of their total income to retirement investments compared to 5% through other approaches.

Finhabits analyzed the financial investment behaviors of 90,000 investment clients for this report, based on publicly available census data to identify trends in retirement, savings, home ownership, and Hispanic-owned businesses.
