Science Team From Ames Research Center Wins 2009 NASA Software Of Year Award
The NASA World Wind Java computer program developed at the agency's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif., is the winner of NASA's 2009 Software of the Year Award. NASA World Wind Java is an open-source platform used to display NASA and U.S. Geological Survey data on virtual 3-D globes of Earth and other planets. The displayed information comes from satellites, aerial photography, and topographic and geographic data.

2.9 Million National Science Foundation Grant Attracts Minorities to STEM Fields
The University of Texas at El Paso has received a five-year grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for nearly $2.9 million.The “Science for a Sustainable Future: Developing the Next Generation of Diverse Scientists” award will provide fellowships to minority graduate students in NSF-supported disciplines such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Danny Olivas to Kick-Off UTEP’s New NASA Space Exploration Center
Astronaut and UTEP alumnus Danny Olivas will be on his alma mater's campus to celebrate the opening of the new UTEP Center for Space Exploration Technology Research on Feb. 3. Olivas will present an STS-128 flag and patch to be put on display at the new center. Both traveled to space on his most recent space shuttle mission, STS-128, last August.
