This summer, over 170 students completed paid internships at more than 75 sites, developing skills, advancing their goals, and supporting communities through LaGuardia Community College’s Center for Career and Professional Development.

A Hispanic-Serving Institution in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College also announced the launch of a tuition-free Data Analytics Pre-Apprenticeship Bootcamp to prepare New Yorkers for careers in technology.

According to the press release, the boot camp builds on LaGuardia’s track record in data analytics and apprenticeship programs.

Since 2021, the college has trained over 525 students in data analytics, including through partnerships with employers such as Healthfirst and NYC Health + Hospitals.

Graduates have gone on to careers in fintech, healthcare, education, and more. The apprenticeship component is modeled after LaGuardia’s successful apprenticeship program with Wells Fargo.

In addition to technical instruction, students will receive career readiness coaching, complete a capstone project, and have access to support services including Career and Technical Education Assistance, College Access for Retention and Economic Success, and other programs designed to reduce common barriers to completion.

The first cohort began on August 18, 2025, and the second cohort is scheduled to start in January 2026.

Funded by a grant from the CUNY Workforce Development Initiative, the program offers 180 hours of hands-on training in SQL, Python, and Tableau — three of the most widely used tools in the data industry — and connects participants to paid, long-term apprenticeships or other employment opportunities.

Individuals who complete the bootcamp will earn a LaGuardia Certificate in Data Analytics and may qualify for a 28-month paid apprenticeship with The Data School, the training arm of data consultancy The Information Lab.

The boot camp is open to individuals who hold a high school diploma or a GED..
