The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) recently wrapped up its InternSHPE summer program. The organization recognized the 2025 cohort for their contributions, as the program aims to help individuals develop and succeed as professionals.

On August 27, top recruiters will be joining SHPE Career Catalyst: Creating a Stellar Resume for 1:1 sessions to discuss crafting the perfect resume, hiring processes, and how to land your next opportunity at the SHPE National Convention.

The event is part of SHPE’s Career Catalyst Series, designed to promote professional growth. Participating recruiters include Air Products, Bechtel Corporation, Capital One, Caterpillar Inc., Chevron, Delta Air Lines, GE Vernova, General Motors, HP, Honeywell, Mortenson, Nucor Corporation, Southern Company, and Wells Fargo.

Additionally, SHPE is asking mentors to help students secure their first big opportunity. They have launched a new InternSHPE Prep initiative this fall to guide students through their career journey. Topics include resume and LinkedIn tips, job search strategies, interview skills, and networking with confidence.

SHPE has also announced that it will host a variety of competitions at the upcoming National Convention, where participants can showcase their skills.

According to the announcement, in the Cybersecurity Challenge segment, teams will compete in an interactive challenge that simulates real-world scenarios.

Participants will develop their skills through problem-solving, mentorship, and workshops in a high-energy environment. Top-scoring teams will have the chance to win cash awards.

The Academic Olympiad segment will feature a STEM trivia challenge for undergraduate members nationwide. Teams of three will compete in categories including science, math, engineering, history, and more, with prizes awarded to the top teams.

The STEM Research Competition will allow students and faculty to present their original research. Both graduate and undergraduate divisions will be judged on criteria such as originality, significance, quantitative results, and clarity of conclusions. Winners may receive awards of up to $2,000.

Video submissions for the 3-Minute Grad Thesis Competition will open on September 1, with final submissions due by October 27.

The live competition will take place on October 30 and will feature presentations by graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

There will be an early-stage category for master’s and PhD students, as well as a late-stage category for PhD and postdoctoral candidates. The top three finalists in each category will present at SHPE 2025 and will have the opportunity to win cash prizes.
