Since this week was officially recognized by Congress in 2010, various activities celebrating postdocs’ research and teaching have taken place on campuses across the country.
Last year, Vanderbilt University celebrated its 500 postdoctoral researchers during National Postdoc Appreciation Week.
These postdocs play a crucial role in the university’s research efforts and educational mission, receiving prestigious grants to improve patient outcomes and provide innovative solutions for cancer treatment challenges.
The University of Colorado Boulder has announced that its Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will recognize outstanding postdocs and mentors during National Postdoc Appreciation Week, September 15-19, 2025.
This year, the university is offering a list of networking events, including a professional postdoc portrait session and seminars on key topics.
These include alternative career paths to academia, tips for job searching in a new federal landscape, insights into postdoc success in the job market, and strategies for planning successful proposals.
Additionally, the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is highlighting its Postdoc Leadership Institute during National Postdoc Appreciation Week.
This important program empowers postdoctoral researchers to embrace leadership roles confidently.
SACNAS plans to feature postdocs making significant contributions in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields on its social media.
With recent funding challenges, programs like the Postdoc Leadership Institute are at risk, the team will share short videos about what makes the PLI special and why support is more crucial than ever.
The University of California, Merced, has announced that Fabiola Perez-Lua, who received her Ph.D. in May, has been awarded a UCLA Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program grant.
This program provides research funds and faculty mentoring to scholars whose work can enhance opportunities at the University of California and beyond.
According to UC Merced, Dr. Perez-Lua, the daughter of immigrant farmworkers from the San Joaquin Valley, will have the chance to collaborate with a nationally prominent health researcher as she pursues her mission to improve the well-being of agricultural laborers.
Perez-Lua’s journey in hard sciences has coincided with the challenges faced by hundreds of thousands of immigrant farmworkers in the Valley.
