The Aerospace Corporation has announced the winners of several scholarships from the Aerospace STEM Endowment Fund. Established in 2015, this fund supports students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

As part of its initiative, the fund introduced the Dr. Wanda M. Austin STEM Scholarship and Future STEM Leaders Scholarships.

The Dr. Wanda M. Austin STEM Scholarship is an invitation-only award that includes a paid internship with Aerospace and a combined scholarship of up to $10,000 per year, renewable for up to four years.

Recipients of Future STEM Leaders Scholarships are required to pursue undergraduate studies in a STEM field at a four-year college and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Selection criteria for these scholarships include academic performance, community service, and leadership potential.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Aerospace STEM Endowment Fund, which has supported a total of 38 students in their pursuit of STEM degrees.

Ephrem is the recipient of the Dr. Wanda M. Austin STEM Scholarship.

This scholarship, named after Aerospace’s former CEO and president, provides Ephrem with a summer internship, an Aerospace mentor, and a $10,000 scholarship toward his education, renewable for four years.

During this summer, Ephrem will apply his passion for coding as an intern in the Engineering Technology Group at Aerospace.

His love for computer science began in high school, but it was first sparked in eighth grade when he designed an app to help people with Type 1 diabetes track their blood sugar levels and medication dosages.

He continued this desire to help others by creating Menu Master, an online platform for students at St. Bernard to pre-order their lunches, and Orate.ai. This app utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance language skills.

To further support his community, Ephrem founded Invert LLC, a company that places digital advertisement screens in the windows of small businesses, helping them generate additional revenue.

He also held several leadership positions, including president of the Associated Student Body, president of the National Honor Society (NHS), and founder, president, and teacher of the Coding Club.

This fall, Ephrem will attend the University of Southern California to study computer science and business.

Additionally, six high school students from across the nation have been awarded the Future STEM Leaders Scholarship, given to students who excel academically, demonstrate leadership skills, and contribute to their communities through volunteer work.

Recipients will receive an Aerospace mentor and a one-time award of $5,000 to use towards their college education.

The recipients include:

  • Adam, who will attend the University of Colorado Boulder in the Engineering Honors Program to pursue a degree in aeronautical engineering.
  • William, a rising senior, plans to pursue a degree in physics.
  • Anthony, also a rising senior, plans to take Chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP Biology to advance his goal of becoming a veterinarian.
  • Jesse plans to study engineering in college, with a focus on either mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Jyot has researched ligament regeneration using self-created robotic prosthetics and will major in mechanical engineering and minor in business at The Pennsylvania State University.
  • Jared will attend Alabama A&M University this fall to study mechanical engineering.
