Beginning in the spring of 2025, the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) College of Engineering launched a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (AI). There is an increasing number of AI-related programs on offer in Texas.

They include Texas Tech University with its Online Bachelor of Science in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence; Tarleton State University, which provides a Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; Angelo State University, offering a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence; the University of Texas at San Antonio, which provides a Multidisciplinary Studies degree in AI; and the University of North Texas, which has a combined Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

During a U.S. Senate committee hearing titled “Winning the AI Race: Strengthening U.S. Capabilities in Computing and Innovation,” the University of Michigan’s platform received special mention.

Discussions in the hearing focused on training 500,000 skilled tradespeople to support America’s growing AI industry.

Recently, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) announced that it has received a $2.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation through the ExpandAI Program, in partnership with the Georgia Institute of Technology’s AI Institute for Advanced Optimization.

This AI Research and Innovation for Smart Environments project aims to enhance UTRGV’s AI research and education by offering specialized courses, strengthening its computer science doctoral program, and providing hands-on training for both students and faculty.

Similarly, San Diego State University (SDSU) announced a $2.8 million NSF grant for a project titled “PARTNER,” which aims to expand AI education for students, including those in K-12 and community colleges.

Additionally, Miami University in Ohio is set to launch a new degree in Quantum Computing in August 2025, which is expected to be the first nationwide program focusing specifically on the software aspects of quantum computing.
