In early May, White Earth Tribal and Community College and Sitting Bull College celebrated their graduates’ strength, perseverance, and achievements who earned Master’s, Bachelor’s, Associate’s degrees, certificates, and GEDs.
At Sitting Bull College, Chris Fried served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event, and Nicole Alkire began the celebration with a prayer.
Samantha Eagleshield delivered a powerful student address, while Mr. Whitney Rencountre II provided an inspiring speech as the commencement speaker.
The colleges honored Fern Has Horns from the Running Antelope District with an honorary degree. They thanked Crow Feather Hill for providing beautiful and powerful music and Grey Willow Music and Productions for their contributions.
Furthermore, they recognized the Sitting Bull College Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, and staff for their daily dedication and support, which are crucial to student success.
White Earth Tribal and Community College (WETCC) was established on September 9, 1997, by the White Earth Tribal Council. It opened its doors to 14 tribal students on October 7, 1997, in a two-room building in downtown Mahnomen, Minnesota.
Sitting Bull College, located on the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota and with two sites in South Dakota, is dedicated to building intellectual capital through academic, career, and technical education while promoting social and economic development.
Additionally, the American Indian Higher Education Consortium shared a post congratulating the 2025 Tribal College and University graduates for their accomplishments and wishing them success in their future endeavors.
The graduates represented several tribal colleges and universities, including the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Iḷisaġvik College, the College of The Muscogee Nation, Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College, Stone Child College, Aaniiih Nakoda College, Diné College, Fort Peck Community College, Haskell Indian Nations University, Haskell Student Success Center, Little Big Horn College, United Tribes Technical College, and Little Priest Tribal College.
The American Indian Higher Education Consortium plans to celebrate more Tribal College and University graduations throughout May and June.
