Denny’s is celebrating the latest recipients of its Hungry for Education Scholarship Program. This year, the program has awarded $161,000 in scholarships to outstanding students nationwide who positively impact their communities.
The Hungry for Education initiative has been active for over thirteen years. Since its launch in 2011, it has awarded over $2.7 million in scholarships, demonstrating Denny’s long-standing commitment to advancing education and promoting social equity.
This program recognizes the essential role of education in fostering personal and community growth.
It rewards deserving students for their written submissions discussing innovative solutions to pressing social issues, such as reducing childhood hunger and strengthening community ties. The scholars are visionaries, advocates, and agents of change.
April Kelly-Drummond, the vice president and chief inclusion and community engagement officer at Denny’s, shared that the company is dedicated to supporting talented young leaders on their educational journeys.
This year’s national winner is Jamya Crawford, a Health Science student at Clemson University from Moore, South Carolina.
Jamya expressed, “This honor means the world to me because it reflects the power of showing up with heart and purpose. Denny’s has been a beacon of support in my community, and I’m inspired to continue building meaningful connections and creating a lasting impact together.”
Jamya shared her journey: “When I first entered college, I believed I could manage the same responsibilities and advance my education independently, even with harder classes. However, I struggled with the transition, but the resources offered by my school were invaluable.”
She concluded, “I believe Denny’s Corporation can unite communities by providing high school students with classes on mental health, time management, and networking. The transition to college can negatively affect students’ mental health as they try to meet the high standards instilled in them. By offering these classes, high school students will be better prepared to manage the stress of time management in college.”
