An energy summit by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute is scheduled for March 14, 2018, in Washington, DC.
The CHCI Energy Summit will discuss the future of energy, the role of Latinos in energy, technology and innovation in the industry, and the role of energy in emergency preparedness.
According to the CHCI, the timing is right to empower Latinos to learn about jobs in energy and the possibilities to make a difference in solving energy problems faced by so many communities in California, Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and beyond.
Last fall, Hispanic Engineer Magazine online featured top Hispanic executives in energy.
They include Jesus Soto, senior vice president, gas operations of PG&E, which provides services to 16 million people in northern and central California; Pablo Vegas, executive vice president, gas business segment, and chief customer officer at NiSource Inc.; and Aleida Socarras, Vice president and Business Unit Leader of Chesapeake Utilities.

With over 25 years of experience in the energy and natural gas industry, Socarras has seen a lot of the changes that have occurred within the industry. It was her liberal arts education that allowed her to bring a fresh perspective to this rapidly changing industry.
Last year, a study by the American Petroleum Institute, one of the mission partners of the CHCI Energy Summit, concluded that many of tomorrow’s careers, including those in the oil and natural gas industry, will require training in a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) discipline.
In the natural gas and oil industry, more than one million blue-collar job opportunities are projected through 2035.
STEM education is key to diversifying America’s energy workforce
