The University of Central Florida (UCF) has been announced as the winner of the 2024 HSI Battle of the Brains competition.

This competition serves as a national championship for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), showcasing the exceptional talent of Hispanic students from colleges and universities across the country.

The HSI Battle of the Brains features various components and includes students from accounting, business, and STEM fields, representing the Hispanic diaspora. Participants range from first-year college students to graduate students.

Teams from HSIs compete against one another to determine the HSI Battle of the Brains Champion. Each institution selects its top teams to represent them.

UCF’s team secured first place in this fourth annual competition, which was presented by KPMG, a global financial organization. They triumphed over 17 other teams to claim the $50,000 top prize, marking UCF’s second victory as national champions.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) finished in second place, while Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) took third place. FDU fielded a cross-disciplinary team that earned this prestigious honor.

The 2024 HSI Battle of the Brains competition took place from October 2 to 5. It featured a rigorous selection process that narrowed down the participants to the final seven teams competing in the finals.

The competing teams included students from various disciplines, such as accounting, computer science, data science/analytics, digital media, engineering, finance, information systems, management information systems, marketing, and mathematics.

A key component of the competition involved a 24-hour business and technology case challenge, which combined elements from accounting, design, policy, business, and STEM into comprehensive business solutions.

Scholarship prizes ranged from $50,000 for first place to $15,000 for second place and $10,000 for third place. Each participating team had 24 hours to devise a solution for the business challenges presented to them.

Examples of these challenges included developing a social engagement tool or platform (such as a website or mobile app), creating a marketing plan with promotional materials, and formulating a go-to-market strategy for technology solutions.
