POSTED ON Oct 11, 2024

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), Hispanic Engineer magazine has showcased a range of stories from diverse professionals in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

Today, we look back on a Hispanic Heritage Month edition featuring Ricardo “Rick” Piña. In the 2021 interview, he shared the secrets of leveling up. Read the full interview here.

“Where I grew up in East New York in Brooklyn, the motivation to do right was scarce, and the opportunities to do wrong were plenteous,” Piña told Hispanic Engineer magazine. “But my mother instilled in me that the family came to this country to get a better life, and because of that, I stayed away from the many opportunities that would have taken me down the wrong path.”

Piña’s mother grew up in La Vega in the Dominican Republic.

In 1970, she migrated to New York. Piña was born a couple of years after his mother came to America and was the first in his family to speak fluent English.

Piña told Hispanic Engineer magazine that in his view America is still the beacon of hope for most of the free world.

Currently, Piña is chief operating officer and chief revenue officer at Inspired Solutions, an IT value-added reseller and logistics solutions company providing turnkey solutions.

A combat U.S. military veteran, Piña is also the founding president of the Rick & Isabella Pina (RIP) Ministries, an author and podcaster.

On World Mental Health Day, October 10, Piña shared this message with his followers on LinkedIn.

“At Inspired Solutions, we believe that a thriving workforce is one where every team member feels valued, heard, and empowered. We’ve implemented programs and policies that promote work-life balance, provide mental health resources, and create an open dialogue about mental wellness. Our culture is the cornerstone of our success, built on a foundation of empathy, understanding, and mutual support… Taking care of our people isn’t just good business—it’s our moral imperative. When our team thrives mentally and emotionally, their creativity, productivity, and satisfaction soar. This, in turn, enables us to deliver exceptional solutions to our clients. On this World Mental Health Day, we invite our partners and peers in the industry to join us in breaking the stigma around mental health and creating workplaces where everyone can flourish, both personally and professionally. Together, we can inspire a future where mental health is given the attention and care it deserves.”
