In 2023, Latino Outdoors celebrated its tenth anniversary and experienced significant growth, with regional teams forming in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Houston, Philadelphia, and San Luis Obispo.
The organization facilitated over 360 outings for more than 8,300 participants, engaging in activities such as biking, rock climbing, exploring bayous, surfing, and hiking in various national parks.
Additionally, Latino Outdoors hosted virtual conversations and speaker panels, introducing Latino leaders in marine conservation and AfroLatino travel.
On World Environment Day 2023, UNICEF appointed Colombian activist Francisco Vera as the first youth advocate for environmental and climate action in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Vera’s role is to promote environmental education and children’s participation in advocating for a greener, healthier, and safer planet.
UNICEF emphasized the urgency of educating young people about climate action, while praising Vera’s passion and determination in fighting for climate justice and human rights.
UNICEF expressed the need for more young leaders like Vera and pledged to work alongside him to ensure that the voices of Latin American and Caribbean youth are heard.
